Prebuilt Rustty Binaries and Packages

Install Rustty without building it manually by downloading and running a prebuilt binary or package.

The Rustty project only officially distributes prebuilt binaries for macOS. For other platforms like Linux, we rely on a mix of distro maintainers and community members to build, test and distribute Rustty for the wider userbase.

macOS

Official macOS binaries are provided by the Rustty project and are available on the download page.

These binaries are signed and notarized by the Rustty project. To install, download the .dmg file, open it, and drag the Rustty application to your Applications folder. This is the same process as installing many typical macOS applications.

Linux

If you need help with building Rustty on a specific distribution, see Build from Source.

Tip

Interested in creating a package for your platform? Check out the packaging guide. If you need any help, feel free to make an issue.

Nix

The Rustty repository includes a flake.nix. From a checkout of the repository, nix build .#rustty builds Rustty and nix develop provides a development shell. See the Build from Source page for details.

Linux (Community Binaries)

Community-built binary packages for Rustty are maintained outside the Rustty project.

Warning

Any package or script named rustty that you find elsewhere should be treated as unofficial. Community binaries carry a much higher risk compared to builds directly from the Rustty project or from distro maintainers, since they have been compiled beforehand on a computer that might not be held to the same security standards. Compiling from source is the much safer option.
